Description: Tells the wondrous story of the oldest stupa in the world at Boudhnath, Kathmandu, and also relates the concise biography of Padmasambhava.
The first part recounts the legendary history of the building of the great stupa which housed the relics of the previous Buddha Mahakashyapa, by the diligence and selfless devotion of the poultry woman Shamvara and her four sons. This story is told by Padmasambhava to the Tibetan King Trisong Detsen. All those involved in the construction also made strong vows and aspirations, resulting in the rebirth of the eldest son as Trisong Detsen, and the other sons as Padmasambhava, Shantarakshita, and the king of Yarlung. Padmasambhava then details the benefits and consequences of stupa building, circulambulation and prayer, and the prophecy of future events.
The second part of the book outlines a brief account of the life of Padmasambhava, Guru Rinpoche, drawn from the Seven Profound Themes of the terma master Orgyen Chokgyur Lingpa.
